My 2019 Word of The Year

word of the year for 2019

This year, I decided that my word of the year is INTENTION.

But first, Happy New year! I know the latter part of last year was pretty epileptic on this blog. I got caught up with a lot of things and quite frankly didn’t make this blog a priority. My last post here was back in November when I shared my November Intentions. I did write my December intention, I just didn’t publish it here on the blog. I’m back now and working on finding my rhythm. Stick with me this year as we seek out life’s adventures together.

Now back to this blog post.

As I wrote my goals for 2019, I knew I had to pick a guiding word. “Word of the year” isn’t new to me. The church I attended as a child strictly start each new year “prophetically”. So, every year, we’d all start a new year with keywords and phrases symbolizing what we expect and pray for in the year. Now, as an adult, last year was my first time attempting to choose a word of the year with meaning. Unfortunately, last year, I felt like I had too much to do and my word for the year turned “words” of the year. I had so many, I lost focus.

This year, I am choosing to truly stick to one word mainly because I really want the discipline of choosing and focusing on one word.

For this year, my word of the year is INTENTION because I genuinely want to live intentionally. I want to explore intentionality in every way and find meaning and purpose in everything. Of all those three words I contemplated on for 2019, Intention was the word that pulled on me the most. It was the word that captured everything I envisioned for myself in 2019. It was also the word that I knew would challenge me.

Oh, “challenge” was one of the words.

One of the main reasons why I chose “intention” is to protect myself from being consumed by my goals, tasks and “could be’s” this year. Everything that I do must be done intentionally to avoid finding myself back in the cycle of chaos that so popular in our society today. It shouldn’t surprise you to know that even though I write about simple and intentional living, I am not immune to falling back into the mundane fast lifestyle.

Here are some of the ways that I hope to practice intentionality.

  • I want to be intentional with how I spend my time. I want to be able to account for much of the munites in the day. No, I am not policing my self and my time but I am going to ensure that I am intentional with everything that I commit my time and resources to. To be intentional with my time is to spend my time on things who add value to my life, to invest my time in things that bring me joy and eliminate the rest.
  • I want to be intentional with my finances; how I save, how I spend and how I give.
  • I want to be intentional with the contents I create; ensuring that its contents I enjoy creating and that they add value to your life and to mine.
  • I want to be intentional with how I utilize social media; who I follow and how I allow what I consume on social media affect my life.
  • I want to be intentional with my minimalism, my wellness and my way of life in general.
  • I want to be intentional with the tasks I set for my self and how I achieve set goals.
  • I want to be intentional about living my best life, loving myself, loving people and creating the best version of myself.
  • I want to be intentional about cultivating a habit of gratitude; to learn to be grateful for even the most minute things and experiences. Check out some of the things i’m thankful for in this post.

I’ll share more of this as I unravel this word in the coming year.

Happy New Year again! Be sure to check out my youtube channel as I will be uploading weekly youtube videos as well.
