Here’s to Organic Lip Balms that Actually Work

all natural lip productsHi, lovelies,

I’ll be honest and first to say that switching to an “organic lifestyle” can be slightly challenging. These challenges are seemingly intensified for someone who has been heavily invested in using conventional products. Honestly, one of my initial challenges was finding organic products that actually as well as some of the conventional products.

These days, many companies know that people are even more curious about the products they use and so a lot of companies want to appeal to even more audiences. The effect of these is that you have companies slapping labels on their products that do not even meet the standard of said labels. In the green beauty and lifestyle world, there’s such a thing as “greenwashing”. I will particularly devote series of blog posts for this subject as it can be quite simple and complex at the same time!

A huge part of this blog is sharing my experience as I embrace living life using clean products with ingredients that neither harm me nor the environment. My hope is that by sharing my experiences -choices, product reviews etc- I can help anyone looking to switch and show that beauty and living well shouldn’t be detrimental to you or our planet. I also hope that it’ll help my readers make more conscious choices in their day-to-day life.

This choice includes even the simplest choices such as a tiny tube of chapstick. Today, that will be my focus. I am sharing my current favorite lip balms with you guys. These lip balms all leave your lips so soft, hydrated and nourished. Even better is knowing that these are made from clean ingredients. Using clean ingredients in our lip balm is so important because we all know how easy it is for that lip balm to make it into our body. *side eyeing anyone who never licks their lipsticks, lip gloss or lip balm*

Within the last year, I have found myself only using 2-3 brands of lip balms. I have really loved this product and thought I’d share.

One of my first swaps was Dr. Bronner’s Organic chapstick ($2).This product is definitely one of my absolute faves. It’s the most affordable out of all the ones I have tried. When it comes to natural products, Dr. Bronner’s is high up there. They have been in the game for years and I absolutely trust everything I get from their brand. Every chapstick from this brand keeps my lips super moisturized.

The ingredients include Organic Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Organic Beeswax, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Organic Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Organic Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Tocopherol.

I have lips that get chapped VERY EASILY. If I skip a chapstick for a day, my lips get super flaky and after two days, I get cracks that hurt badly. When I get these cracks, this product heals them in a day. If you’re on the hunt for chapsticks that work and are affordable, I recommend this one.

Next, I love are the chapsticks fromBruit Essentials ($6). My lips love these stuff especially the mint and tea tree flavors. It heals my cracked lips and keeps them from overdrying. You only need a small amount per application (obviously) which is good. The only thing I don’t really like about this product is the initial texture in some of the flavors (the cinnamon one). It feels like applying thick shea butter on my lips which I don’t really care for; I HATE lip glosses for that reason. But yeah, This thing is super healing and moisturizing.

The ingredients include Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil, Organic Beeswax, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, 00% Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil.

Kiss me honey lip balm reviewNext one I love is the Kiss me honey Lip Balm ($4.99)*. I started using these about two weeks ago and definitely will continue to have these in my stash. I find them to be very moisturizing. My lips are so soft and moisturized for a significant amount of time after each application. I don’t find the consistency as thick as the one from Bruit essential which is awesome (Trust me, the difference is so minute, but I notice tiny differences like that). This one doesn’t leave my lips feeling sticky at all which is a huge plus for me.

I have used these as a lip conditioner under my lipstick and love it! It still leaves my lipstick matte just the way I love them. Ingredients: Organic beeswax pellets, organic coconut oil, organic unrefined Shea butter, Vitamin E, grapefruit seed extract, organic sweet almond oil, organic essential oil peppermint (for mint flavoring).

Another one I thought I’d share is the Akar Skin Ruby Tint Lip Butter ($32). Honestly, I was rooting for this product! It works tho, just not as great as the other (more affordable ones I’ve tried). I have resulted to using this product just on the days when I am pampering myself and trying to feel extra special with a $32 lip butter. LOL. It moisturizes my lips slightly but the effect doesn’t last as long. But that’s just me and my lips. It might work for someone else.

PS: I have some awesome DIY  lip exfoliating recipes if anyone is interested. Ain’t nobody got time for crusty lips girl!

For months, I’ve had a “shady side of natural beauty marketing post” among my potential blog post lists. But when I started to read your blog, I deleted it and hoped (I actually wanted to ask specifically) you would write something on greenwashing, because you’re so knowledgable. So I can’t wait for your series. But if I can request some other topics: it would be so useful to have a list of brands as well as some suggestions on where to find and buy them. I’d like to try some natural brands, but sometimes it’s just so overwhelming to navigate among them. I trust your judgment:)

Btw, I go for affordable lip products as well, for the simple reason that I always manage to lose them:)

Hey Viktoria. I totally feel you! And I will work on these post suggestions ASAP. Soon as I get my move done by the end of this week, I’ll work on this. It can be really daunting, so I totally understand the overwhelming feeling. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions that can be quickly answered, you can send me a DM on Twitter. But I’ll be working on these post you’ve requested. 🙂

I can’t wait for the green washing post! You’ve got some great affordable choices here. It’s a shame that we can’t get Dr Bronner here (I don’t think so anyway), because it seems like they do some great, no frills products x
